Auhui Province: Overview

Anhui (Chinese: 安徽; pinyin: Ānhuī; Wade–Giles: An-hui, Mandarin pronunciation: [ánxwéi]) is a province of the People's Republic of China. Located in eastern China across the basins of the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River, it borders Jiangsu to the east, Zhejiang to the southeast, Jiangxi to the south, Hubei to the southwest, Henan to the northwest, and Shandong for a tiny section in the north. The capital of the province is Hefei.

The name "Anhui" derives from the names of two cities in south Anhui, Anqing and Huizhou (now Huangshan City).[1] The abbreviation for Anhui is "皖" (Wǎn), because there were historically a State of Wan, a Mount Wan, and a Wan river in the province.

Auhui Province: Facts and Information

Auhui Province is located in the river regions of the Yangtze and Huai River in eastern China. Geographically, it is a transition area of the northern and southern parts of China's mainland.

Anhui is one of the provinces with abundant tourism resources, such as natural landscapes, many places of historic interest, and colorful folklore. Mount Huang has long been renowned for its grotesque pines and cypresses, odd-shaped rocks, see of clouds, and hot springs. In 1990, the Mount Huang was put on the list of the World Natural and Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Three counties, including Shexian, Shouxian, and Bozhou, are state-level famous historic and cultural cities, and 36 places are under major state protection as relics, covering places of historic interest, Bunddhist structures, ancient residences, gardens, and customs. The profound culture has left behind many places of cultural interest, such as the archways in Tangyue, Shexian County, the ancient building complexes in Yixian County, and the opera theaters in Bozhou. In 2000, the UNESCO listed Xidi and Hongcun Villages in Yixian County as World Cultural Heritages sites.
